Bosch dishwashers

Water left standing in the tub is the call we get most, and on a Bosch it is nearly always the drain side: the three part filter in the bottom of the tub, the drain pump under its cover next to it, or a kinked hose behind the cabinet. The filter and the pump cover both come out by hand.

Bosch washing machines

On Bosch washers two thirds of the calls are the door lock and the drain, and both announce themselves with a code. The published list is short and specific:

Two of these are not repairs at all. E32 usually means a single heavy item, a bath mat or a duvet, has gone to one side of the drum: redistribute the load and the spin completes. E33 means the detergent, not the machine. Both are worth trying before anyone books a visit.

Bosch refrigerators

Bosch does not publish fault codes for its refrigerators the way it does for dishwashers and washers, so here we work from symptoms. A cabinet that is warmer than it should be, frost building on the back wall, an ice maker that has stopped and a door alarm that sounds with the door shut are four different faults with four different causes: airflow, the defrost circuit, the water line, and a door switch.

The one thing worth checking yourself is the door seal. Close the door on a sheet of paper and pull: if it slides out without resistance anywhere along the edge, the seal is letting warm air in, and that alone explains a fridge that runs constantly and never gets cold enough.

Bosch ovens, ranges and cooktops

No heat at all is the most common oven call, and the first things to rule out cost nothing: the oven is not in Sabbath mode, demo mode is off, and the clock is set. An oven that came from a showroom floor sometimes arrives with demo mode still running and behaves exactly like one with a dead element.

On the control panel Bosch does publish one code worth knowing, E11: the touch keys are not responding properly, usually because of condensation on the panel. Bosch's own advice is to wipe the panel with a dry cloth and cut the power for a moment before assuming anything is broken.

On induction cooktops, a zone that cuts out under load is usually heat rather than failure: the electronics under the glass need the vent path under the counter to be clear. On gas, a burner that keeps clicking after it lights means a wet or crooked burner cap far more often than a failed igniter.

Bosch dryers

Bosch heat pump dryers dry at a lower temperature than a vented dryer, so longer cycles are normal, but laundry that is still damp at the end is not. That is nearly always airflow: the lint filter in the door, the second filter in the plinth and the condenser behind it all load up, and the machine cannot move air through them.

All three are owner maintenance, not a repair, and on a heat pump dryer they want cleaning far more often than people expect. If the cycles are long and the laundry is damp with all three clean, then it is the sealed system or the sensor, and that is a service call.
