Dacor oven codes

A code beginning with C on a Modernist oven is Dacor's own numbering. Most of them name a sensor or a board, and two of them are about the panel rather than the oven:

Dacor's own first step for the sensor codes is the one worth doing: press OFF, restart the oven, and if it comes back, kill the power to the oven at the breaker for at least half a minute and bring it back. Codes thrown by a one-off spike clear that way.

For the board temperature and the cooling fan codes Dacor says to call for service without the reset, and that is fair: a built-in oven that cannot get rid of its own heat will keep failing until someone looks at why.

One thing to check before calling anyone on a wall oven that has been recently installed or reinstalled: the cabinet cutout. We have been to Dacor ovens that overheated their own electronics because a new kitchen closed off the gap the oven vents through.

Older Dacor ranges and wall ovens

The Renaissance and Epicure years have no display to read, so the diagnosis is done by behaviour. A gas burner that clicks but never lights is an igniter or a gas valve; a burner that lights and then dies is more often the flame sensor. An oven that will not hold temperature is usually the sensor or the bake element, and on the dual fuel ranges the electronics behind the panel are a common failure after twenty years of heat cycling.

Parts are the real question on these. Some Dacor parts are still made, some are gone, and a few are shared with other brands. We tell you which of the three you are dealing with before any work starts, because on a range this age the honest answer is sometimes that the part no longer exists.

Dacor refrigerators

Dacor's built-in refrigerators do not put numbers on the display; their manual works by symptom. Their own checklist for a cabinet that is warm starts away from the machine: the plug, the setpoint, whether the unit stands next to a heat source or in the sun, whether there is a gap of about two and a half inches behind and beside it, and whether it is packed so tightly that food is covering the vents. Dacor says plainly that a service call for one of those is charged to the owner, and we would rather you checked them than paid us to.

Frost around the vents is nearly always food pushed against them, and frost on the walls is a door that is not sealing: look at the gasket, clean it, and check that nothing is holding the door a millimetre open. Condensation inside comes from doors left open and from food stored unwrapped.

What is left after those checks is ours. A built-in Dacor that never reaches its setpoint with clean vents and a good seal, an ice maker that has stopped for no visible reason, or water appearing under the cabinet needs a technician with gauges and a meter.

Dacor cooktops and the rest

Dacor publishes no codes for its cooktops - we looked at the current gas cooktop manual and there is no code table in it - so a cooktop is diagnosed the old way. On gas, a burner that will not light or burns yellow is nearly always the cap sitting crooked after cleaning, a clogged port, or a wet igniter. On induction, a zone that cuts out under load is usually the cooling fan or the board behind it, and that is not a home repair.
