Bosch Dishwasher Service and Repair: What the Code Means
A Bosch dishwasher tells you what it found before it stops, and the code on the display narrows the job down to one system: water coming in, water going out, the heat pump, or the leak protection in the base. That matters, because two of those four are things you can look at yourself with no tools. The meanings below are the ones Bosch publishes for its own machines, not our guesses, and we work to the same list in homes across Los Angeles and Orange County.
What causes it

E15 and AquaStop: the one code not to sit on
E15 means the safety switch has found water in the base of the machine and the leak protection has activated. Bosch is explicit about what to do: shut off the water supply and get the machine looked at. The AquaStop system is doing its job at that point, and it is the reason the water is in the base pan rather than under your cabinets, but the leak that filled it is still there. Everything else on this page can wait until the morning. This one cannot.

What you can check yourself
- Switch the dishwasher off at the breaker before you reach inside.
- Twist the three part filter out of the bottom of the tub, rinse it under the tap and clear the sump underneath it by hand.
- Take off the drain pump cover next to the sump, lift out any glass or debris, and press the cover back until it clicks.
- Check the drain hose behind the machine for a kink, and the air gap on the sink for a blockage.
- For a water inlet code, check the tap is fully open and the inlet hose is not kinked or crushed behind the cabinet.
- Reset power at the breaker for thirty seconds and run a short cycle. If the same code comes back, it is not a one-off.
Where to stop
Stop at E15, at any code that returns after the filter and the pump are clean, and at anything that trips the breaker. Past that point the machine has to come out from under the counter with the water and power disconnected, and the parts involved, the inlet valve, the flow meter, the heat pump, sit behind the base pan that just filled with water.

Questions we get asked
Where does the code show on a Bosch dishwasher?
On models with a display it appears on the front. On models without one it is shown by a blinking light pattern on the control panel, and the pattern is listed in the manual for your model. Photograph whatever you see and send it to us.
Can I just reset the machine?
For the control board codes Bosch itself says to cut power at the breaker for thirty seconds first. If the code clears and never returns, it was a one-off. If it comes back, the reset has told you it is a real fault, which is useful in itself.
The machine says E12. Is that a repair?
No, it is descaling. E12 means limescale has built up in the heat pump, which is common in this part of California. A descaler run through an empty machine clears it, and doing that two or three times a year keeps it away.
Is a broken glass in the pump an expensive repair?
Usually not. On most Bosch models the impeller sits under the pump cover next to the filter, so it is reachable without pulling the machine out. What makes it expensive is running the cycle repeatedly with the pump jammed.
